This is the start of Alberich's story.
It starts in Karse where Alberich is a Captain (I think) in the Army. From birth he has been told that the Vladmarian Herolds are "White Devils" and should be feared. Just as he has been tought that his power of premonition is demonic, which is why he has never admitted to having it. Admitting would mean gettin burned at the stake.
This book is amazing. I love Alberich.
