This is the first of a series of four. Joust, Alta, Sanctuary, and Aerie.
This one is about a serf boy in a country that strongly resembles ancient Egypt. He "belongs" to a man called Kefti the Fat. In the first chapter he is taken by a dragon jouster Ari to care for his dragon, Kashet (FYI, my orange cat is named Kashette after him). He spends the book taking the best care he can of the dragon because not only does he love the critter he also doesn't want to be sent back to Kefti. He eventually steals a dragon egg which hatches into his dragon, a female, named Avatre (yup, got one myself a two year old holstein cow). All in all it's a great book that I won't tell everything about. It's worth taking the time to read yourself.
