Wild Magic- Tamora Pierce- Immortals book 1

This was the first Tamora Pierce I ever read. After years of my friend Emma telling me "you have to read the Lioness series (didn't like that one so much)" I found this one in the local library.
It's a few years after the Lioness series, focusing around a young orphan who can easily speak to animals. She believes she is crazy, because after her mother's murder she ran with a pack of wolves. And if it hadn't been for her horse Cloud she would have remained with them until the local villagers hunted her down and killed her.
She runs away and gets a job with a woman taking horses to Tortall for the King's Riders or something.
She easily gets the job. And along the road to Tortall they find a hawk in rough shape she saves him only to discover he's not a hawk but a man, Numair. Numair becomes her teacher, mostly because he's the most powerful mage in Tortall. Her ability to talk to animals is actually Wild Magic. Hence the title.
Amazing book, loved the entire series, and I have all but the last in the same print, style whatever they match, the last one my order was canceled on so I need to reorder it.

I love that series! Wild Magic was the first Tamora Pierce book I read too, and what got me from animal stories to fantasy. The last one is my favourite. I hope they get made into movies sometime.

Oh me too. But who would play Numair? He'd have to be perfect, nobody else matters, just someone good for Numair.......

Lol, good question. Apparently she based his looks loosely on Jeff Goldblum, so maybe him?
I've always thought Jonathan Frakes from Star Trek TNG would make a good King Jonathan.
Hope the links work...

One problem, Goldblum is getting a tad old to play a love interest for a teenager, he's my mom's age. Plus he creeps me out wasn't he in Independence Day? That movie scared me. Sad but true. The other guy might do but I've never seen his work. I've never been able to watch Star Trek, I get lost. I thought maybe Bill Campbell from The 4400. Still old (49, I think) but way past hot. Not for any reason except, well I like him.

Haven't seen Independence Day or The 4400. I just googled Bill Campbell and yeah I can see him as Numair. Hmm, yeah the age gap would be a problem...

If you get a chance I seriously recommend the 4400. And not just because Bill Campbell is hot. It's a really good show. Or it was til it got canelled during the writer's strike. Personally a 20+ age difference doesn't bother me, but they make this into a movie we're not the target audience really. More younger people than 20 somethings.

Wow, I read the wiki for The 4400. What a weird premise. Dunno if it's been shown here (living in NZ can really suck when it comes to tv) but I might be able to find the DVDs... I love discovering good new tv shows. =)
Yeah true. I'd rather they stayed true to the books, but I imagine Hollywood would take some 'artistic licence.' Ah well, it's all hypothetical for now anyway!

It's actually a really well done show season 3 kind of sucked but that was because of the one chick. Otherwise amazing show. Trust me the US sucks sometimes too. Most of my fav authors are from Europe so the books come out as much as three years later.
I love discovering new shows too.
Yes it's all hypothetical but look at how many really bad books are getting made into movies. That stupid Golden Compass can't possibly be good, seeing as the series sucked.
This book was really good so someday ;)
I think as long as they nailed the casting and the relationship btwn Numair and Daine it's end up being pretty good.
