Approaching 500! I'm just back from what was supposed to be my annual vacation but was, instead, an extended writing retreat. I bore down hard on LAST HUNT, and I'm nearing the 500 page mark. This week I intend to write the final conflict (it's going to be HUGE!) and, if I survive it, I should have a finished full draft by next Monday. Wish me luck! Bruce |

OH MY GOD TELL ME THIS DOESN"T SOUND AMAZING!!!!
Here's the flap copy for LAST HUNT!
The secrets of Luster are finally unveiled!
IN THE CENTER OF LUSTER STANDS AN ENORMOUS TREE CALLED THE AXIS MUNDI, THE HEART OF THE WORLD.
But now that tree is wounded, pierced by magic. Through that wound marches an army of Hunters, led by the sinister and vengeful Beloved. And they are all determined to destroy each and every unicorn.
As the unicorns gather to defend their lives, the human girl, Cara, is sent on a mission to meet a ferocious and mysterious dragon. Faced with perilous danger, Cara must make a desperate decision that will change her life forever.
With a deft hand and keen imagination, master storyteller Bruce Coville brings this riveting epic fantasy series to a rousing conclusion as the secrets of Luster are finally and satisfyingly revealed.

Above from Bruce Coville's Unicorn Chronicles website. I'm sure he won't mind my borrowing it...
I can still remember curling up in my senile grandfather's one sided, falling to bits armchair to read a-erm-borrowed without my incredibly wonderful older sister's okay new copy of Into the
Land of the Unicorns to this day I think she knew I had it those two days but just let me enjoy it. Oh how in love I fell with the Dimblethum the adorable manbear. And Lightfoot the rebelious young unicorn. Then the Squijum, the little monkey squirrel thing. As well as Thomas the Tinker (I mend what I can) and the Keeper of the Chronicles whose name I can't spell, the grumpy little dwarf. And Lady Firethroat who gave Cara the gift of the Dragons. The gift of tongues.
By end of seventh grade I knew Ebilon, the smallest and nastiest of Lusters dragons. Medafil, the gryffin. And my oh so loved Moonheart serious old dude unicorn. And Jacques the sad clown guy from the traveling circus thing in Luster, and perhaps Cara's grandfather? And I'd been witness to the death of a unicorn queen. I'd watched Ivy Morris regain her true form and take her place as Queen of the Unicorns.
Last year I got to meet the centaurs and the really cool Rocky, the exiled Delver. And I watched my well loved Finder die. The first death in the last war of Hunters and Unicorns. I watched as Beloved and others planned to destroy all unicorns. And I learned of the Whisperer.
The Last Hunt is the last book. These books have been part of my life since I was a small child... 5th grade was almost half my life ago. What ever will I do without another Unicorn Chronicle book in the offing? I've spent ten years reading, waiting to read or picking apart these books.
Today is kind of happy kind of sad.
Less than a year til it comes out. He's alreay 3/4 of the way done. (according to the website)
WHAT WILL I READ WHEN THEY'RE ALL FINISHED????
any suggestions?

Now waiting for spring '10
Bruce Coville is apparently almost done with book 4 of The Unicorn Chronicles: The Last Hunt and it may be released as soon as the spring of 2010. So just around the time of my 22nd birthday (January 2010).
I found this out yesterday. I was very happy. Still am. I really wish my new Mercedes Lackey was here but I can deal. Also, Jeffrey Dean Morgan on Jimmy Kimmel tonight I will be watching it. Jensen Ackles will be on tomorrow...
Next week Supernatural and many of my other favorite shows come back from the holiday hiatus. Cold Case came back this Sunday with a rather lackluster show about a murdered redneck lottery winner. Really didn't like it. But it was something new to watch.

Dark Whispers: Unicorn Chronicles book 3 Bruce Coville
This book was amazing. It "officially" hit stores today. I finished my copy over a week ago. I was amazed at how worth the six plus year wait.
When Song of the Wanderer book two in the series came out, I was a small chubby seventh grader. Now I'm a chubby 5'7" year three of college student.
And yet this book was just as important to me. I waited the years checking the Unicorn Chronicles website.
I read and reread the first two books. Then finally bought myself paperback copies of them. Now I want the matching editions of hardcovers.
Yes, this is the first hardcover that I wouldn't trade for a paperback if you paid me.
It again follows Cara Diana Hunter, who has informed the old queen that the Wanderer is weary, and then traveled across Luster to the cave of the last Dragon of Luster to bring the Wanderer home. She has reconnected with the father who "deserted" her though he has joined the hunt for the unicorns led by the ancient Beloved.
Now Beloved has one of the Queen's Five, the amulets that allow the wearer to travel freely between Earth and Luster "Luster take me home" "Luster let me go".
The old queen has faded and a new queen has taken her place, Amalia Flickerfoot, formerly known as Ivy Morris, Cara's grandmother. Cara is very special a hated hunter as well as the granddaughter of the Queen.
Now her grandmother sends her to discover when and where Beloved plans to begin the Last Hunt. As well as who the Whisperer is.
The book is really well written and Coville once again proves why he's in my top five favorite authors.
The only part I didn't like aside from Finder(a unicorn)'s death, was what he did with my adored bear-man, the Dimblethum.
I am waiting impatiently for the next one!
