  • Series? Or Stand-alone books?

I like both actually.

Stand alone books tend to leave me wanting more. The best examples being The Rising of the Lark and Circus Sequins. Mom has no problem with accepting that the couple in The Rising of the Lark get together and that Roxy returns to the Big Top... I however am less trusting. Neither book had the happy nicely tied together ending I like from a book... Probably why I like Romance novels so much. Yet I love stand alones. The Perilous Gard is a particular favorite of mine as is The Sherwood Ring.

Most of my favorite books are part of series. Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr. Wild Magic, Wolf Speaker, The Emperor Mage, The Realms of the Gods. The Summoning, The Awakening, The Reckoning. Into the Land of the Unicorns, Song of the Wanderer, Dark Whispers, The Last Hunt. The Childern of the Lamp. Foundation, Intrigues, Changes (best part of this post? New Lackey book!). Series tickle me in a special way. I am able to develope relationships with my favorite characters. I know some people don't understand the way I feel about the people in books. I absolutely love some of them. I find myself forcing my mother to read the ends of books to ensure that my characters survive. Still not over the killings of Snape and Moonheart (The Last Hunt). And mom was suitable frustrated as she did not particularly enjoy that series and was not inclined to read them. Sad.

While I understand the frustration some people feel in waiting for books in a series to come out... That is one of the best parts for me. I always have something to look forward to . My life consists mostly of work, more work, televison, and booksbooksbooks. Mostly books. I generally am waiting on three or four books to come out at any given point. Most are actually Romance novels, I enjoy the happy endings. And the rest are my die-hard favorite series or new books by favorite authors. I waited 5 or 6 years for Dark Whispers to come out. I check constantly for new Lackey and until this week Paolini release dates.

Wish we could find the stupid Sherwood Ring. That is going to drive me nuts until we do.

I haven't gotten into a series in a while. I do however love Tess Gerritsen books, and even though some of them follow the same characters through the next crime scene adventure, others are individual books. Nonetheless I love them all and at times I've waited for the next one to arrive, even paying for a hardcover once because I couldn't wait for paperback.

I'm glad you're writing again. I like reading about what you're reading and your thoughts on books even though our tastes are quite varied.
